Our Vision:

We believe in the power of literacy to transform lives and communities.

Our Mission:

Catch Up & Read’s mission is to equip children from underserved communities to read on grade level by the end of third grade so they can graduate from high school and break the generational cycle of poverty.

Our Focus:

To empower teachers with evidence-based literacy practices that give 1st-3rd grade children the reading foundation they need to succeed in school and life.

Differentiators:

  • Teachers are the Program: We train campus teachers in best practices in reading instruction to impact the highest need students. This not only grows the students but grows our teachers as they practice what they’ve learned in their weekly Catch Up & Read PDs. They then take their new strategies back to their homerooms providing a multiplier effect for their classroom students today and for years to come!
  • Data-driven instruction: Proven methods based in the Science of Reading
  • Bi-lingual advantage: First tutoring program in Spanish and English (57% Spanish-speaking during the 2023-2024 school year)
  • Culture & Belonging: Every lesson begins with movement and mindfulness exercises to ensure students are ready to learn
  • Teacher Retention: 100% new teacher in CAR retained in district vs. 76% ($10MM savings!)
  • Teacher Incentives: Stipends for afterschool, Microcredentials/badges, bonuses, BuDhaGirl bracelets and snacks show we value teachers! Plus, the cohort model and excellent PD and coaching give teachers the support and encouragement they need to be effective.
  • Motivating Students: Tokens excite students and give them joy in learning
  • 2 Intervention Offerings: CAR Classic (after school) and CAR Accelerator (during school)
